Even more progress and background info

The new Beta will be available in a couple of weeks time and it will have 8 new areas, several rooms with unique riddles, PG Daisy and SG Black! It's been a while since we released a new Beta but we were busy designing levels, characters and planning ahead. Let's go through all that bit by bit!

MoGi parade!
This is a comprehensive panel of all the MoGi. You can see which ones appear currently in the game and which ones appear as Hostage Rapes or something else. We decided to include every MoGi in the game, even if their role is not too important or even if they don't have sex scenes. We still have a lot to do, but let's not forget that most of these MoGi were added outside of Offbeatr pledges to make the game look better, deeper, more populated and as a "thank you" to all our fans and supporters!

The map
We had to do a few changes and make sure that everything checks out. We had to print a physical version of the map and lay it on the floor and run every scenario. We can't show the whole map, that would spoil the exploration of the game. The map is complex but essential for the game. A few people might have the problem with the map because of it's unique design.... sometimes the creators need to take risks and try new things. Not many 2D games use a 3D map because things tend to get messy. The only similar map we could find was from "Shantae Risky's Revenge" which wasn't very intuitive in it's use. We hope our map system is less confusing!

New areas
We talked about the "Old Labs" in the comments of our previous post. This area represents the opposite of what you seen so far: ruined buildings instead of clean ones and an upper level of platforming for those comfortable jumping from wall to wall. You can also see Alice and some background info such as the function of each building. The interiors will have many surprises!

Decisions
Roofs and stairs have a fundamental problem, if we got a slope in the game, it has to be a solid object. Voms won't be able to go through it and that can't change because that means changing the core mechanics of the game which can lead to a disaster. So we need to find a way around such problems, discuss, experiment and end up with an acceptable decision. Sometimes you can use your imagination but other times you need to see it in action and judge after you play it for your self.

Back when we had to create the farms, we wanted to come up with a design that allows Voms to climb on the ceiling and serve as a 2nd-layer platform. As you can see we came up with at least 6 ways that don't quite work for various reasons. We had to come up with a satisfying way to deal with that, which you can see in the game right now, the double roof.

In a similar manner, we try to decide how the stairs will work. The game has lifts, but they get quite repetitive and we want to change that. We decided that B1 is the best approach to the stair design.

And last but not least, a small animation of how we plan to have SlimeGirl Black attack. A while ago, one of our fans here mentioned "grabs" and we rejected it as an idea. But we never forgot! We talked about it and love the fact that Voms can have his personal HR, while SlimeGirl Black has a sprite sex scene as an attack. SlimeGirl Black turning to ball may not be too sensual, but if she can have a sprite sex scene and an actual sex scene.. might worth the try! This sprite scene might also be the Breast Smoother some other fan asked for!

Regarding non-adult mode the Breast Smoother should be fine as an animation and other playable characters won't be compatible with that move but they will get hit by Black's roll attack. We hope we can pull this off because grabbing moves are hard to implement in a game.

  9. So there's a bug where if you jump on/to an object a specific way your character gets stuck in a running motion and you can't break free. Only choice is to exit game and load at last save.

    4. I am in the Beta not in the demo. Sometimes if I wait a minute or so it will stop on its own but usually I have to reload from my last save. It's like I jump and get stuck on a bad pixel on corner blocks.

    7. Well there are two folders in there. One says new and one says old. Try playing the version in the new folder and see if you have the same problem.

  10. Does anyone know how to load the game? I save on every checkpoint but in the main menu there isn't the load option. It's awful doing again ALL the way every time I lose.

Hey guys, i've been watching this game slowly progress from back when it was just pumpkin chick and no story, so years now, my issue with you guys is that(and has always been) i'm here to play MOGI so I kinda hoped that after the last beta where you released two characters with basically the same animation and look then having to wait another 2+ months id see more than just SG black and PG Daisy.
    I apprciate the updates on the developing but I can't play those, have you ever thought of posting more Betas with less maybe a few new rooms and one mogi per beta but on a monthly instead of waiting 3 months for 2 new chicks and gettng bored with it before youre even half way ready to realease the next.

    BUT HONESTLY IM PROBABLY YOUR BIGGEST FAN IN THE WORLD I BEEN WAITING FOR A GAME LIKE THIS TILL I FOUND YOURS AND JUST WANT IT TO BE AMAZING

    1. Yeah honestly, I don't really care about them making the environment/building look pretty and expanding the map. I think they should shift their focus to introducing more and new MOGi with unique sex situations. Also they should make certain enemies harder than others. For example, like they did with rock girl, give an enemy the ability to block and give them more health making it harder to defeat them. And for the sex scene with these types of enemies, make a harder mini-game to escape the rape, instead of just trying to stop that moving bar in the highlighted section. So like a rapid click mini-game or something like that.

      Like we saif before, some MoGi have animations based on each other because someof them are bonus MoGi... they shouldnt have existed in the game at all. So, be glad they exist even if they feel like copies of each other. They animations are not identical, they differ, even though the differences are not big.
      The updates on the developing were asked of us, instead of being completely silent. They show progress done in the game that cant be shown currently in the game. We work on many things that dont fit to be in the beta at this moment, but we have to be able to present that we do work hard on various ends.
      We cant have a MoGi per month because the MoGi will finish up a lot earlier than the betas updates! Plus, we need to work on many things as I said earlier.

      Environments are important too. They need to look good, they need to be planned with enemy placement and many other variants. We cant have more MoGI packed in the same environments.. we simply need more areas to spread the MoGi.
      About the difficulty... many players have complained that the game is hard as it is. You want it harder. Me and Titan as developers, need to find a balance and make the prgess of the make smooth regarding the difficulty. Titan make the final tunnel almost impossible to beat with all those Stone-girls, and yet you didnt complain. We try to have each MoGi to be a unique enemy and we will follow this path until the end.
      I dont think we will change the minigame, but Black actually might have a small addition/deviation to this recipe. Not harder though. You will find out soon :)

      And it wont be really half a year of progress because you wont be able to view all the levels we have designed or the soldiers or many other things. You will only be able to see maybe 6 new areas and a few rooms with new art and riddles. Regarding the glitches, Titan always manages to sort them out :)

  17. I know there's been a lot of you guys just refreshing this blog all day today... waiting for the announcement.

    While it might not seem like it at times, Veins and I pay A LOT of attention to this blog. Our view counts and everything.

    It really... really. REALLY... pains me to say this, but we need another day. Unexpected errors came up on my end that I need to fix. They're not hard fixes, but they're many.

    This delay is my responsibility and I'm working to get the next beta out as we speak.

      I paid for the beta so that I could support a game that I hope to be GOOD. I don't want a game that has been rushed, then it wouldn't be worth the wait.

  18. I can't play. I've tried both versions, compatibility modes, firewall exceptions, and disabling avg, but only the ESC, SPACE and ENTER keys work. I'm on windows 7.

    2. I don't know then, the only reason the keybord imput would be removed is if the game detect a gamepad,maybe there is something connected to your computer that make the game think there is a gamepad

  21. I don't know how to make a game b4 but I'm pretty sure it's harder than it looks,I a video editor and sometime editing just a tiny bit of animation or special effected too me entire night. But video won't hv too much bugs and stuff but a game will hv tons of bugs,so take y'all's time :D

    3. We are working on the beta as we speak. After quite a few changes, SG Black has a lengthy cum scene (7 times longer than her sex scene) and it took me more than half a month to complete her scenes and sprites. I'm still working on some details. After I'm done, Titan will add her in the game and then we release the breast! er... the beast!

    3. I looked into it. Mighty no9 is a kickstarter game that was delayed multiple times and in the end it wasnt a good game. Bad code, recycled art, boring characters, bad communication... it didnt delivered what it promised to the backers.

      Mogi Origins has taken a long time to be made but the only thing we got in common with Mighty no9 are the delays which is common in projects like this. We do communicate with our backers and fans, we do like having likable characters and a strong story. This will be more obvious when the next couple of queens appear.

      Regarding our delays, get this. SG Black was drawn frame by frame because every part and shadow and highlight on her had to move independently to show that she is an actual living slime. That king of animation is twice as hard than animating other Mogi. Also, her sex scene ended up being 3 times longer than any normal Mogi and 2 times longer than Neko who actually had an extra animation (licking her self as a kitten). Black took me 20 days to make because of all that. I could have made 4 mogi during that time but because we respect the game and our fans,sometimes we need to take our time to ensure the quality of our game.

    1. This assumes they work on the project 24/7. They are people and probably work a good 8-12 hours a day, if not more. They deserve rests and breaks, not to mention, life by itself tends to get in the way.

      The problem people have is they always say they -want- to have it in a day or two, not that they can or will. These are essentially estimates. Game development is a tricky thing and even the simplest of games (ie: a platformer) has quite a bit of code that runs behind the scenes. Due to this, fixing one bug can create another bug and at times, the newly created bug is a showstopper, one that has to be patched out instantly.

      Patching bugs is largely trial and error. They don't just sit there and code and be like "Hm, a bug. I'll just do this. Okay it's fixed." There is a lot of trial and error involved in replicating the bug, isolating the code causing it, and then implementing a fix that does not introduce another bug.

      Game development is never a simple process. Titan and Veins are two people. Most games nowadays are made with teams of dozens, and in AAA title cases, even hundreds of developers working together. You can't expect them to just have things instantly working on a release date that they specify.

      I'm not trying to sound snarky, but I'm giving you a legitimate answer as to why "1-2 days of bug fixes turned into another week fo waiting and still nothing." as you put it. If they release a beta that crashes, then the people that give them money will feel like they got ripped off. It's not good to do that to your consumer base. You release a beta that at least somewhat works and go from there.

      Anyways, that's enough explaining from me. Take it as you will.

Agreed, I don't know the first thing about game development and I'm just as eager as the next person to try this out, but I want them both to succeed in development of MoGi Origins and wish them the best, great games aren't made in a day, and even the smallest bug makes the biggest difference.

In my job, I work on a project, that project was supposed to be done at the end of january, now they hope it can be finished at the end of this month, I heard that song from january to today, so yeah, a release date is not something you should put your trust in, and well, even AAA games have delays nowdays, so if even professional developpers can't pinpoint a release date correctly, I don't think it's correct to ask an indie developper to be able to do it.

  28. No one's complaining on how long it's taking. They're complaining that a realease date is set and that it's been delayed three times now over the past two months. Of course when you say "coming in a few days" and finally they've been stuck waiting for a month or so, people will get impatient.

    3. This is why most developers are even scared to set a date. I dealt with this in my field (PC Repair) in which case, I would quote someone something, that it'd be finished tomorrow afternoon. Guess what, a colleague screws up, does a system restore because updates weren't working and all of a sudden I have to spend time removing all the viruses again. I miss my promised delivery date to the client and that person gets angry and upset and gives us a bad review.

      The problem isn't developers, the problem is entitled people who have no idea what goes on behind the scenes expecting a flawless product. People complain that it's taking too long if they don't release an estimated date. If they do, people complain when a showstopping bug shows up to delay the development.

      Look at No Man's Sky for example. That developer got death threats from delaying his game. That is absolutely pathetic that we live in an environment that people are so spoiled and entitled that the will threaten the developers life in an effort to spur them faster. Even if it is just "harmless ranting" to actually threaten someone's life is a big deal.

      Let's say that Titan and Veins keep their promise and release the beta as is on the date they said. You know what will happen? People will complain when it ultimately crashes, doesn't work properly and then they'll be upset that the beta isn't working. Developers simply can't win anymore.

      Also for those of you that think you can create a game "as simple as this" I dare you to try the same thing, the same scope that these two are trying. Better yet, if you don't know even at least a bit of coding, go to codecademy.com and try your hand at Pythong or HTML or CSS and tell me that you can create a product that you can sell in a month and call it professionally developed. I'm willing to bet that the majority of you will not be able to pull off such a feat.

      Ranting aside, kickstarters and donations here are an -investment.- You are not pre purchasing the game, you are -funding- a game that is in development. Investments fail, deadlines don't always get met and there is nothing you can do. These two people have lives of their own, families of their own and cannot put in 24/7/365 to development of a game. Seriously, people need to chill out. You guys have no idea the amount of effort these things take.

    5. You mean like Daybreak Games going quiet for months on end after announcing a potential PS4 release for EverQuest Next and then months down the road, after 0 updates, posting that they're cancelling the game because it's not fun?

      This isn't limited to just prominent developers. All developers can work on communication. Sure, these two could post that they're working on it and not sure when it'll be released.

      However, even prominent developers go the route of being quiet for months only to release the game has been cancelled. Starcraft: Ghost anyone? It isn't just limited to these two, but sure, prominent developers always announce the delays.

      I will concede that they probably should make a post if it's going to take longer and announce that there is currently not ETA or so, communication is always a key, but to say that prominent developers announce the delay is just cherry picking. Some do, some don't. It simply depends on the developer.

      As long as you set a release date for something, anyone looking forward to it would be disappointed when it gets delayed especially when it happens several times, i wouldnt go as far as death threats but in your previous example of pc repair you might not want to hear this but you deserved the bad review, it is not the consumers job to understand what caused the delay because in the end it is your employees fault and therefore your company/whatever fault also

      Personally i am sad about the delays been a long time since the last beta release but while i don completly understand the problems they have i like that they take the time to respond rather than go dark

    7. Let me clarify a few things. Indeed we want to release betas as fast as often as we can. We wanted to release a Beta since March. Back then me and Titan told each other (internally) to try and speed things up and try our best to release 2 betas per month. That didnt happen obviously, but it shows how much we want to work and have everyone satisfied.

      We wanted to release a few new areas for March and April. We couldnt make that deadline and then June came. During June, we decided that we need to add a new MoGi because a lot of time has passed and its about time to release Black. Black took me 20 days to make. We actually said that releasing in July is not an option, we have to release in June. Sadly, there were other unfortunate events, such as a storm that made us lose some of our data and a GM update that corrupted some of the tiled art in the game. And now it's July.

      During all this time we have worked on many things that cannot be seen just yet, such as SlimeGirl Red, the Soldiers and robot animations and enemies.

      Black and the new areas we made are quite demanding and we even had to go back and fix a few things, such as the city riddle with the kitten. But we hope you will like what we made for you. Progress is made, problems keep popping up. Just when we were sure about our deadline something goes wrong... we live in a chaotic world. There is nothing to worry about, you just need to be a bit patient.

    8. While i understand, it might put some people at ease to make a larger update entry rather than responding in the comment sections. A lot of people, I'm willing to bet, probably only check the blog, see that there is no update and assume there is no progress.

      Even if you're mentioning delays, it's probably best to make a blog update at least a bit more regularly if you can. Communication is important and keeping your investors in the loop is a good thing.

      Regardless, I get how difficult it can be so I hope you guys are at least doing okay. Best of luck to you.

      Me and Titan work on different ends. He still programs the current beta and I have made a few extra Mogi. From the above Mogi panel we have crossed out at least 5 extra (not pledged) Mogi. They are not enemies with scenes but at least they are designed to be in the game at some point in the future.

Since you are working with the game and can't afford to work on something else, per release is not optimal (this is good for comic strip makers or people who makes enough to get a good income). You can have a monthly sub to help with your expenses and post more often, share creative insight, show some concept arts and ongoing work, maybe have the beta builds for monthly payers too. Higher rewards can include the finished game, maybe some NSFW Mogi/Ucogi and the other girls posters, because you need some rewards for people that already have the game and want to keep supporting, so you need stuff for both types of patrons (new to mogi and that already have the game/beta and such). Do you have any friends who have a patreon that you can ask for some tips?

    28. Since we are all brainstorming here, we could actually have all the mogi as enemies. Voms and Vor can also have sex with all of them.

      To be realistic though, me and Titan will have to consider all possibilities. Re-skins werent popular so far (we havent got any good comments about Amanita and Toadstool, even though they differ in many aspects) and the way most mogi are designed... a reskin proccess will take as much time as making a new mogi.

      Also dont forget that a yeat ago the game had memory problems and we had to switch the sex scenes into video format which had its share of problems. All that was fixed but it took time and if we add too much art, its highly possible that the memory problem will return.

      The way I see it, Naked Alice is a possible goal but before I can confirm anything at all, I need to consult with Titan.

      For example, how much you think it cost to make a new mogi? Then set that as tier rewards, i will just play with values here since i dont know anything about it.
      0-50 a new mogi
      50-100 second mogi
      and so on, but for example, if a new character costs more, you can change between them.
      First few dollars a mogi, then a character, maybe a skin, another mogi, another character, another skin and so on.
      The tiers need to have a value that benefits both you and the fans, so they will try to help you reach that. You have to plan accordingly too, if you feel the game is going to take some time to develop, you are going to receive this money monthly, so which is better? High value tier rewards or have them low, since you will keep receiving the money, so it will add over time

      I havent talked to Titan about all that yet, but personally, I dont want to do things that will make me spend time away from the main game. I have changed my mind about various things before but right now I dont think I want to do extra sketches or character re-skins.

      I could post draft sketches that I have in my sketchbooks, or draft animations like the one with SG Black in this post, because I would do that for the game anyways. So yeah, concept arts and even wallpapers is something that can be done. Same goes with icons and Screensavers, like we had in Offbeatr. Actually we can offer many of the things that we were offering during our Offbeatr campaign.

      Re-skinning characters is even harder than re-skinning mogi, simply because the characters have many more frames and moves. If that ever happens, it will be after the game is done, because as I said above, memory problems lurk when we add a lot of art.

      Small competitions between patreons that give away card games is an idea that I totally dig!

      Voice actors, no. Moans, yes, we have some of those and we could make more.

      Alice and Nude Alice would have been the same character, edited.

      Other tiers could be an underground map or playable MoGi (as we said in the Offbeatr) but now that I think about it, an awesome tier would be to play as Succubus, which in turn could change into any (non-Queen) MoGi, making her a very dangerous and prolific character! LOL I may be daydreaming there!

      Rewards and tiers aside, our Patreon can simply be about supporting Team Erogi. If you like the game and you appreciate all the little extra things we did (like every NPC being unique and trying to include every MoGi to say a few) then you may want to support our effort.

      There are a few thinks I have to say as a member of Team Erogi. We do try to make a great game and we do listen to every suggestion. We might discard something right now, but we may return to that idea once the opportunity arises (like a grab-attack and a Breast-Smoother move, soon to come). We never false-advertise and we try to deliver all that we have promised, and more. Moreover, we try to be as honest as we can be. That said, punctuality regarding deadlines is not our strongest asset (to say mildly), so I'd rather stay away from promising stuff on a certain date.

      I guess I am a huge ENF fan as well, since Ucogi in all her games is getting naked and embarrassed. I'm not quite sure how good would she look in this game since Ucogi is as big as Voms (200x200 pixels), but maybe if I release her HD animation like I said above, the details will show. And yes, boobs have to jiggle! That's like the main thing in this game!

    55. @Anon1 Yes of course, the art needs to be distributed slowly. If we reveal 1 nude Ucogi image (from the cards) per month, they should last for a year or so.

      @Anon2 To explain how she would react requires me to describe why she is like that. In other words, you are asking me to expose Alice's story. I can't do that here!

      We will have to wait for the game to tell Alice's story. I cant promise you if she will be embarrassed or not. I would know more when we will figure out the details of why she acts like she acts. She may not blush but it's too soon to say. But you know, adding a blush is not a big deal. I could make her blush in the HD animations (Patreon) as an alternative.

      The way I envisioned Alice is that when she gets naked in the normal game, her body is covered by hair. So, in the Nude Alice mode, I could just remove the hair while everything else remains the same. But there would have been extra levels and we would get to see Alice's origin (and violent) story. There, Alice is a year younger but her appearance is the same. I could make her boobs smaller but who wants smaller boobs? :P

      In any case, I like having variety and Ucogi blushing is fine, but Alice should be different. This is not set in stone and I havent made up my mind because it's too soon to talk about this, but Alice in many aspects is the opposite of Ucogi.

    70. I cant release a goal list, even if it's hypothetical. Not only I havent talked to Titan about this because he is busy making the Beta we all want to see, but some people may take that hypothetical list as a fact and start expecting things.

      Me and Titan have made a few mistakes even during the Offbeatr campaign and we need to to treat this with the experienced we gained. To give you an example, we forgot to calculate that each sex scene and Hostage Rape will have a cum scene. That was an extra animation for every enemy MoGi, that we forgot to count. Many of those cum animations take more time to make that the actual sex scenes. Take Neko for example, after her cum scene, she has an extra animation where she licks herself.

      Sometimes is not about money. We promised that we will add Vor and the ultimate MoGi queen even without reaching the Offbeatr goals. We want to add every MoGi in the game and we want every NPC to have a unique appearance. We added the Erogi magazines as a bonus surprise. We will add Succogi and Succalice due to popular demand and as it turns out we have a nice story to say about them. In the next beta you will also see unique logos on each red truck, because we want each area to be memorable and distinct from all other areas.

      We add stuff because we think they will work and because we like them. All that makes the game bigger and deeper and more time consuming to make. But we enjoy what we do and we will try to make the best game we can. Hopefully the coming beta wont disappoint and I cant wait to release the next 2 Betas because a new Queen and Ucogi will appear in those.

      But I can tell you what I want to see in the game. I want to see Nude Alice. Because her story is dark and will connect with stuff that happen in the main game and because it's the opposite of what this feel-good game shows so far.

      All that said, we can't keep adding stuff in the game. Not only because of the lurking memory problem but the game has to be finished at some point. And to be honest, there wont be much more stuff to add after a while, because the game would be packed with all sorts of things. But that's fine. If this goes well, more similar projects will arise by me and Titan. Maybe a sequel, maybe something entirely new. But for now, MoGi Origins is our purpose in life, and that's why we have invested so much in it :)

    I gave some thought about Naked Alice. She would have to be a very different person in her origin story, different pose as well. Probably her hair will have to be red because she will be killing people and I really want to tie that story to my 11 year old animation "Gore in the dark". Which means that there should be dogs enemies as well.
