Getting Closer To The Next Beta

Hello, this is TitanAnteus here.  I know it's been a while since you've heard from me, the programmer, but here I am.  You guys are probably wondering about what's taking so long with the next beta update.

If you followed the previous update and its delays, you'd know that it was caused due to memory constraints with GM:S as a development platform and with the actual game that it compiled for us.  This forced us to externalize all the adult animations into external images.  This version ALSO sparked problems with a lot of computers because some of the animations were rather large.  For instance, Neko's scene was around 3MB (that's pretty large for a picture) in size.  GM:S's internal functions don't handle external files all that well and loading a 3MB file png strip sometimes caused it to crash. It wasn't a controlled crash either( Sometimes it happened and other times it didn't.)  This means a lot of the work done to make the game more memory efficient wasn't helpful.  I needed to take it further. 

That's where I said, I'd take the animations and turn them into video. This is a change at a very base element of the game (yet again :( ). Making the change itself would be challenging, so of course I had to test it on a seperate project and all.  Recently, I've successfully gotten the videos to work on the seperate project and am currently midway through integrating the videos into the running version of the game.  Veins throughout this time has been tirelessly working on the world's maps, planning boss encounters and locations, and drawing finalized art for the locations so most of the art assets that would be left would just be MoGi, and the other characters.

GM:S just recently updated as well, and I am going through the pains to actually update and change the code to avoid crashes.  Normally, I don't update, for fear of something fundamentally breaking down, but this new update decreases GM's memory limitations CONSIDERABLY and I have to take take that risk.
Of course the update is a large one and the changes it's made makes this a difficult transition to make, though I'm glad it came sooner than later. You can find the update here.

To be honest, I didn't expect to face these types of problems developing the game, but I've made significant progress.  Under the hood progress sucks because you can't really see it all too well, but we're working so that the game runs with all the machines the original demo ran with. This is a huge limitation since the full game's going to be miles larger than the demo but what's the point of a demo if not for showing that the software can run on your PC.

I am confident I can have a working version of the game out in September.



Also, I don't want to get all sentimental here, but I'd like to thank everyone. You've all been very patient with us as I struggle through problems I didn't forsee.  Also, thanks to everyone's help the current beta runs on many more machines than it did originally (though I still feel the change to video is necessary.)

    1. yes! the game is highly upgraded.

      many computers couldnt load the previous sex scenes because they were too heavy. so now they are external and they have a video format which saves memory. the video plug in came out this summer (or a bit earlier) and we were waiting for the plug-ins programmer to make a few corrections such as letting us loop the videos without any lag. Nobody else ever added a video in a game in GMs history (that we know of) so we didnt have much help or tutorials on how to do it.

      But we did it!

  6. So, kinda curious about how your artist draws the girls and the sex scenes. Are they freehanded from years of skill onto a tablet, or are they drawn on paper before scanning them to the computer and trimming them up.

    If the pictures aren't free-handed, are they drawn using the same mess of guidelines and pencil marks later inked into a final product, or what?

    1. Most times is a combination of both. Since I draw better and faster using my hand, I create several sketches with the overall pose from different angles. Then I talk to Titan about it, we made corrections and adjustments and then I have to render a final computer image.

      After that's done, I proceed to animating the scene which is freehanded and done on the computer by tablet.

    2. Thanks. Um... is there a specific name for the animating process or type of process you use? Whenever I try to google animating I get either historical anthologies of Disney or some bizarre computer science meets 3D rendered graphics type stuff.

    3. I'm not quite sure of what you are looking for. You want to find tutorials? The animating process I guess is called "frame by frame animation" which I also combine with "tween animation". I make my animations using Flash if that helps.

  10. Two bugs i found. When you jump straight up or at close angles. The Game auto pulls you up. and you are stuck bugged out on top of whatever you were trying to jump on to. Walking Forward in Place with some crouching mixed in.

    Second bug , viewing Nekos scene Triggers
    Fatal Memory Error Out of Memory. And Closes the game

    1. That fatal memory issue is the one that has been giving me nightmares for too long. It should be fixed in the next update.

    2. Did the jumping bug get fixed? I think a lot of people had that issue when they hit that sweet spot on the corner. I can try to narrow down exactly when the bug occurs if needed

  15. The two errors I'm seeing most often are this:

    1. If you catch the corner of a platform just right, Voms gets stuck on the edge and starts jittering. Getting yourself unstuck is impossible, but sometimes getting hit by a MoGi will unstick you. Unfortunately, it's rare that this happens where a MoGi is available. This is a collision detection problem, so it should be fairly easy to fix and probably won't be in the next release.

    2. I crash a lot when the game tries to load rapes. However, it seems like it is almost guaranteed to happen if you're knocked down when there are two MoGis with access to you, like when an Amanita knocks you down next to a Pumpkin Girl, for example.

    Otherwise, how could they face their fans? It has been 6 months since the last beta. They promised, so they will deliver, i know it. New beta today, just you wait :)

      Having a new beta is one thing. having a good beta is another.
      I really do hope that Titan will meet this deadline!

      If he doesnt, no worries, he is close. A lot of fundamental things have changes in order to make the game work properly in many more computers. Let's see how it goes.

    6. Well they wont be actual MoGi enemies but Hostage Rapes. They wont be in a new demo but in the new Beta and they will appear in the general game as well. Ucogi and Alice wont appear as MoGi yet (Succubus will appear later in the game).

    7. With this update, does this mark the end of the memory problems that have slowed down progress so far? Or are those still being ironed out?

    8. This major delay and the fundamental changes have happened to deal with these memory issues. So I hope they have been ironed out. That said, programming is not my department and I havent played the new beta version so I dont know what the new version will have to show.

      From my experience, every new and untested game tends to have unexpected glitches and bugs. We rely on the community here to test this new version and help us find anything that might need fixing, based on everyone's computer system. In the main time I'm creating new MoGi for any future releases ^^

    10. No... (ok, spoiler alert!)

      I made SlimeGirl pink HR which is almost identical to Orange's, only NSFW. There will be only 1 new MoGi enemy which is PlantGirl Toadstool which is identical to Amanita (even the sex scene) but she will have a new surprise attack. Both those MoGi's were never pledges but we added them for fun. Also there would be a new HR but that's a surprise. All these 3 new MoGi will appear in the next Beta (I hope so!)

      We won't have any new levels added. This new Beta would be to test the new programming on different machines and see how it works and if it's better than the last one.

      Also, "nipple penatration" doesnt exist in this game as far as Im concerned.

  19. Not to be that one person, but when exactly is the next beta? I know you said at least one more day for Titan to fix remaining issues; but do you think it'll be released somewhere between friday-sunday, the hype train is real! :P

    1. Titan kinda died last night to meet the deadline but he still has some more work left to do. I will check the new version tonight or tomorrow (time difference is a bitch) and hopefully we will release soon after that.

      Titan hasn't checked the new version in other computers so thats a bit scary. In theory it should work but in praxis... thats a whole new world!

      I told Titan that I prefer a good beta release than a crappy one, so he should take the time to do it. I really didnt like the last release and I disliked even more that it stayed here for 6 months.

      If this new beta works fine then Titan can start working on the next 60+ screens I designed for the game as I finish up some more MoGi. Then everything should run smoothly until the end. Thats the plan I have in my head for now.

  20. I didn't pledge for this game, but I am honestly surprised, and refreshed I might add, to see the community so civil. One common thing I see is people getting angry that the game development process is taking too long and often times they want their money back. These people fail to realize that game development, especially crowd funding, rarely has working betas in progress. It's a concept often times and in planning stages.

    Furthermore, the communication you two exhibit is top notch. I plan on getting the game when it's released. Just want to say keep up the good work and godspeed to you two. Can't wait for the game to be released.

I fully agree, you both do exemplary work and it certainly shows; a major reason I'm here isn't just because the game is great, it's because you both work really hard to maintain a connection to us all, even if the next beta took another month to come out staying in contact with us and ensuring us is the best thing ever. So many game developers lack this and I am not ashamed to say you both are great at what you do, keep up the good work. :D

      Tbh we didnt expect this game to take us so long to make. We had a few bumps along the way but we will never quit until this game is finished.

      We try our best to listen to the fans, correct any glitches, add anything new that we can and of course be honest with everyone about the development. We cant please everyone but we try to please as many of you as we can.

      In our new Beta we added 2 MoGi that werent supposed to be in the game. Nobody asked us to do it and we do have more important priorities but its something extra we wanted to add for the fans.

      Im really sorry this new Beta took so long but things are looking better now and Team Erogi is back in the game!

  23. This may be way too early XD but after this is finished, did you guys maybe have any other ideas for other games in the future? The artwork and gameplay is awesome, and the hentai scenes are fantastic, plus I can def. see the story coming along. We obviously haven't seen half the girls in the game yet, but in my head I can picture a part 2 coming along. Probably more far off into the future with more advanced MoGi. Maybe Voms dual wields wrenches and gets a gun xD lol. Playfulness aside, keep doing the good work guys :D can't wait for the next update!

      Yes, it is too early to comment about any new games, but we sure hope so! Me and Titan are doing great as a team, so if this game is a financial success then yeah more games need to be made! If not... then we would have to settle on boring jobs for the rest of our lives! ^^;

      Now, if the next game is going to be a sequel or a completely new concept... only time will tell!
